The Music Ministry of New Mount Olive consists of choirs, praise teams and ensembles. Each Sunday, the ministry leads the congregation in worship. Much of the church’s musical success can be attributed to the work of some early pioneers such as the late Alma Lewis and the late Shirley P. Bell who directed the Cherub Choir for over thirty five years. The greatest influence, perhaps, lies in the work of Dr. Alfred A. Pinkston who served the church for more than forty years in various musical capacities. He was instrumental in recruiting Minister Eddie Robinson to become the church’s Minister of Music in 1999. The Lord has blessed the music ministry to receive national attention as many of the songs written and recorded here have become stand-ards in the repertoire of church choirs across the country.
Mission is to lead our congregation in the worship of the true and living God through a variety of musical styles and offerings. It is our mission, furthermore, to discover and develop the musical abilities of all who are connected with the New Mount Olive Baptist Church.
The Voices of Mount Olive
The “Voices†is the church’s mass choir consisting in members from the various choirs of the church. Participation in another choral group in the church is required for membership. The Voices of Mount Olive is noted as one South Florida’s most versatile church choirs. This group can perform a repertoire of varies styles of church music ranging from anthems to gospel. The choir has been featured on four church recordings that have catapulted the music ministry of New Mount Olive into national acclaim. Many of the songs recorded by the Voices are being sung by choirs across the country.
